Exploring the Biodiversity of Ile aux Cerfs

Ile aux Cerfs is home to a rich diversity of plant and animal life, with many native and endemic species found across its 87 hectares of untouched land.

Izzy the Bee and the Island's Bee Hives: A Buzzworthy Sustainability Mascot

Izzy the Bee is Ile Aux Cerfs' sustainability mascot, symbolizing our commitment to environmental preservation. We have introduced beehives to support the local ecosystem, particularly the mangroves. These hives promote pollination and raise awareness about the vital role of bees in maintaining a healthy environment. Join us to discover the fascinating world of bees and our sustainability initiatives through Izzy the Bee.

Mangroves

Fringing the island are vibrant mangrove forests, providing an important habitat for birds, fish, and invertebrates. Mangroves play a vital role in coastal protection and filtering water pollutants. Our mangroves are frequently used by migratory birds and Sunbirds feeding on the nectar-rich f lowers.

Flora

Around 17% of the island's plant life is native and 15% is endemic to Mauritius. Native trees like the Trochetia flower and palm trees give Ile aux Cerfs its tropical flair. Our conservation efforts help protect rare endemic species only found on the island and surrounding islets.

Fauna

Ile aux Cerfs is home to rich birdlife, including migratory birds visiting annually. Native birds like the Village weaver and olive white-eye call the island home. Reptiles also thrive in the island's ecosystems, with various gecko and skink species present.

With conservation and education initiatives, Ile aux Cerfs preserves its biodiversity for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. Discover the island's natural wonders on a nature walk.
